Tableau asked Jonathan Lear and Françoise Meltzer, If you had to recommend just one of Freud’s works as an introduction, what would it be?

Lear: “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through” (1914). I think if only this essay of Freud’s survived we could figure out everything else ourselves.

Meltzer: I’d say The Interpretation of Dreams (1900), or the dream book, as it’s called. Freud used his own dreams to explain his theory, which took a lot of guts. And his close analysis of his dreams is a wonderful method of reading texts in general.
