Undergraduate Programs
The Arts & Humanities are central to the undergraduate experience at the University of Chicago. Through the Core Curriculum, students delve into foundational questions about art, culture, language, history, and human experience while developing the critical thinking and communication skills that define a UChicago education. Nearly one-third of students in the College graduate with a major or minor in an arts and humanities field, choosing from 26 programs that span creative practice, history, languages, literature, philosophy, media, and more. Whether pursuing a degree in the Division or complementing studies in other domains, students discover novel ways to understand their worlds, express ideas, and engage the challenges of contemporary life. The Arts & Humanities Collegiate Division is the College’s home for humanistic inquiry and artistic practice. There are many ways for College students to study the humanities or to make art. In the Humanities and Arts Cores, students learn to read closely, think critically, write and speak effectively, or make and interpret art.
