Fiona Boyd is an ethnographer of radio and popular music. Her book project, Radiophonic Country, examines how musicians and media professionals navigate radio’s dominance in the country music industry. An article based on ethnographic work with Black Opry, a Nashville-based country music collective, is forthcoming in Ethnomusicology (70, no. 3). Fiona’s work also explores digital radiophonic spaces such as NPR Tiny Desk Concerts and the intersection of internet radio, audiophilia, and hi-fi/lo-fi aesthetics and cultures. She currently serves as a Humanities Teaching Fellow at the University of Chicago, where she received her PhD in ethnomusicology.
