Dance
Students of all abilities — from beginners to those with pre-professional aspirations — can engage with dance through courses, seminars, co-curricular classes, and a network of student organizations. Professional artists and scholars guide this work, fostering a vibrant dance community that extends from campus into the broader Chicago area.
Undergraduate
The undergraduate Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS) program seeks to animate the intersection of theory and practice in the arts. From its inception, the program has experimented with form, thought, and process, and has capitalized on the tremendous commitment of our undergraduates, the passionate engagement of a remarkable cross-section of Chicago-area artists, and the diverse interests of our faculty. The opening of the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts in 2012 enabled ideas to spring to life in state-of-the-art theaters, labs, and design studios.
Graduate
The University of Chicago's TAPS PhD program is a personalized, interdisciplinary program where students combine theatre and performance studies with a joint doctorate in a cooperating field such as Music, Classics, or Comparative Literature, among others. The program's five components — coursework, oral exams, practice-based research, a joint dissertation, and teaching — reflect its blend of academic and performance-based inquiry, typically requiring up to one additional year of study compared to single-degree programs.

Positioned at the heart of a world-renowned academic institution and housed in a state-of-the-art presenting facility, the Committee on Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS) offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree, a joint Ph.D. program, a TAPS-focused Master of Arts Program in the Humanities, and wide-ranging curricular and production opportunities.

Undergraduate Programs
We offer undergraduate programs in French, Haitian Creole, Italian, Spanish, Catalan, Basque, and Portuguese literature.
These major and minor programs give students knowledge of the literature in their area of concentration and develop the ability to read, write, and speak one or more of the Romance languages. Students whose interests lay at the intersection multiple Romance-language literatures may pursue one of our programs in more than one literature.
