Biography

Benjamin Saltzman is a professor in the Department of English Language and Literature. A scholar of poetry and visual culture, he is the author of Turning Away: The Poetics of an Ancient Gesture (2026) and Bonds of Secrecy (2019), and is at work on a new book, Waveforms: Of Poetry and the Sea. He has previously served as Director of the Program in Medieval Studies and as Director of Undergraduate Studies in English. As deputy dean, Saltzman collaborates with Directors of Undergraduate Studies across the Arts & Humanities to enrich the student experience and support pedagogical innovation, and he leads special initiatives related to graduate education across the division’s MA, MFA, and PhD programs.
