Ghenwa Hayek is an associate professor in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies. An expert in modern Arabic literature, she is the author of Beirut: Imagining the City, in addition to numerous articles and translations. She is currently working on a new book entitled 'Carrying Africa,' Becoming Lebanese. She has served as the interim director of the Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry and won awards from the Martin Marty Center and the Franke Institute of the Humanities. As deputy dean, Hayek works on special initiatives related to graduate education (MA, MFA, and PhD programs), language instruction, and midcareer faculty support.
